The Karmir village has a hundred year-old history according to its elderly inhabitants. Approximately two hundred Armenian families live there, most of them displaced from Western Armenia. Armenians settled down in this safe place and preserved their language, faith and national values. During the Soviet period they didn't have churches to pray in and until recently didn't have any. The Holy Gospel Chapel was built and consecrated in 2012 with the support of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia and private benefactors.

The village paid tribute to the memory of the genocide victims by placing a memorial cross-stone, which was consecrated on June 26, 2015, with the support of local villagers now living in Armenia , Giorgi Eloyan and Davit Davtyan.

A Morning Service and mass baptism was conducted by Rev. Frs. Ter Samvel Torosyan and Ter Manuk Zeinalyan. Villagers of different ages were baptised and annointed with the sacred chrism.

A consecration ceremony of the cross-stone was held with the participation of the delegation of the "Support Javakhk" Foundation and officials from the Hayartun Center. The Director of the Cultural Department, Levon Chidilyan highlighted the placing of the cross-stone as a Symbol of commemoration of our displaced and massacred ancestors. He conveyed best wishes from the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of RA to Georgia, Mr. Yuri Vardanyan.

Fathers annointed the cross-stone with the sacred chrism. Father Ter Samvel Torosyan told that blessings of martyrs will be delivered to the villagers through the cross-stone and concluded his speech with encouraging message from the Primate of the Armenian Diocese, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan.

The head of the "Support Javakhk" Foundation, Samvel Mkoyan and the Director of the Press and Media Department of the Diocese, Susanna Khachatryan also gave speeches. William Khachatryan thanked the benefactors and villagers for placing the cross-stone and marking the centennial of the Armenian Genocide. Children helped to plant trees around the cross-stone.

It is worth mentioning that the cross-stone placed in Karmir village is the first one in Marneuli's Armenian villages. The Armenian Diocese continues to hold commemorative events dedicated to the centennial of the Armenian Genocide.
