Batumi

On June 15-16th 2014, the head of the cultural department of Georgia’s Armenian diocese ValeriBadalyan visited Batumi to support the youth organization of the city’s St. Savior Armenian Church. After learning about the ongoing efforts of the organization, Badalyan held meetings with different Armenian youth groups of Batumi, where he talked about currently existing youth projects in Georgia and Armenia, presented the ways the young people of Batumi can participate in them.

Valeri Badalyan also spoke about the importance of the so called census, which is being implemented by the diocese of Georgia among the Armenian population in the country, as well as suggested organizing pilgrimages to different historic-cultural sites, which would promote and raise awareness of the new generation about their ethnic and cultural heritage.

The participants presented their own ideas about the enlargement of social and charitable programs targeted at the church going part of the community. A decision was made to create a Facebook page for Batumi’s St. Savior church, which will be updated regularly with news and information about the activities of the church.

Another decision at the meeting, was to delegate two of the active members of the youth groups to travel to Tbilisi and research different aspects of diocese’s and its youth department’s work. These two Batumi Armenians will also participate in the conference of young leaders to be held in Tserovani. It was also decided to make these meetings regular in the future.
