Group Chess Lessons at the “Hayartun” Cultural Center of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Church in Georgia PDF Print E-mail

On 2 April, 2013 at the “Hayartun” Cultural Center of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Church in Georgia a Chess Club was opened. Levon Chidilyan, the Coordinator of the “Hayartun” Cultural Center, welcomed the creation of the new club, and introduced that World Class Grandmasters and winners of many competitions David Harutyunyan and George Baghaturov will conduct the classes. He recalled that the Multiple World Champion, our compatriot, Tigran Petrosian was from Tbilisi, and offered to name the newly formed Chess Club after the legendary champion Tigran Petrosian.

The Head of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Church in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanian blessed the audience and told about the special attitude and approach of Armenian gene to chess, and wished that the club, created under the auspices of the Armenian Church in Georgia, would nurture and educate future Armenian champions and International Grandmasters.

Sportsmen David Harutyunyan and George Baghaturov expressed their deepest gratitude for the support provided by everyone and Sergei Arutyunov, in particular,- on his donations chess sets were bought for the club. Students 7 years of age and older may enroll in Tigran Petrosian Chess Club which operates at the “Hayartun” Cultural Center. Classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday.
