Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross (Khachverats), which is the last of the five major feasts of the Armenian Church, was properly celebrated at the Armenian Diocese in Georgia. The feast is movable and in 2018 it was celebrated on September 16. Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the churches on the occasion of the feast. The houses of God were crowded everywhere. The cross wrapped in basil was gloriously placed at the Holy Altar. During the Divine Liturgy, the celebrant preached about the mystery of the day, told the faithful about the return of the Holy Cross of the God from captivity, its elevation in Golgotha and that's why the feast called Khachverats, or Srbkhech. He spoke about the importance of faith and the significance of the Cross. The celebrant encouraged the attendees to live in faith and with accordance to the Christian commandments. Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross celebrates with great solemnly. In the evening, the cross which contains a cherished reliquary – a piece of the Cross on which Jesus Christ was crucified – was placed on a plate, decorated with basil and colorful flowers and the rosewater was sprinkled on it. Afterwards, the procession of clergy and faithful moved to the courtyard of the church and the Four Corners of the World was blessed with the Cross. And the heaven and earth rejoiced and the Mother Church brightened. On the same day in the churches of the Armenian Diocese the glorifying ceremony of elevation and glorification of the Holy Cross took place. At the conclusion of the Evening Service the procession of Holy Cross took place. Under the leadership of the clergymen, the Cross was turned around the four corners of the church and the rosewater was sprinkled on the faithful. After singing hymns and psalms, the basil, which considered as a cross flower, was blessed. The blessed basil was divided into the faithful. In Akhalkalaki, the procession of Holy Cross, led by clergymen, toured the city streets, congratulating the people on the occasion of the feast and then attended the Saint Sargis church in Ninotsminda and were present at the concert dedicated to the feast at the Rafael Javakh Center. The tradition was not violated and this year also Harisa was distributed to the faithful at the Saint Savior (Surb Prkich) church in Batumi. Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross turned into a joyful celebration also in the Cathedral of Saint George in Tbilisi and the Saint Etchmidzin church in Avlabari, as well as Saint Gregory the Illuminator church in Akhaltsikhe, and in the Armenian churches operating in Marneuli, Tetritskaro, Tsalka regions and villages of Kvemo Kartli region. On Monday morning in the churches of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia Divine Liturgy was celebrated in memory of deceased and Requiem Service was offered.
