On August 1, 2018, the traditional Christian Holy Cross (Surb Khach) yard camp was launched in Akhalkalaki. The Yard camp operates over the years under the auspices of Holy Cross (Surb Khach) church in Akhalkalaki of the Samtskhe – Javakheti and Tsalka's General Prelacy of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia. This year also the camp included children of different ages, making their summer holidays healthy and full of fun and joyful events. With the blessings of the Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, the “Jinishian Memorial Foundation” sponsored the camp. About 150 children from Akhalkalaki and nearby villages spend their summer diurnal vacation here for 15 days. With the camp holiday program, the day of the children was beginning with the Lord's Prayer and singing of “Morning of Light” (“Aravot Luso”) psalm in the Holy Cross church. During the camp, children participated in spiritual conversations, learned prayers, national songs and dances, played sports and intellectual games, made new friends and new acquaintances. On August 10, 2018, the Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, accompanied by Rev. Father Tatev Marukyan, took part in the Morning Service together with the camp children in the Holy Cross church in Akhalkalaki. Afterwards, the Diocesan Primate talked with the campers, was interested in their daily routine and wished them happy and exciting vacation. The Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia conveyed his blessings and expressed his gratitude to the “Jinishian Memorial Foundation” for support and sponsorship, the Akhalkalaki Municipality Assembly for providing the areas surrounding Akhalkalaki City Park and nearby sports ground to make children's summer holiday enjoyable and productive.
