On August 27, 2017, residents of Kartsakh village of Akhalkalaki region celebrated Jivani’s Day and opened the troubadour’s home museum. During the previous year the gallery of the home-museum of Jivani was finally rebuilt and opened, this year the memorial section of the house-museum has been also renovated.

The day became a truly festive day in Kartsakh village, where Jivani was born. The celebration started with the Divine Liturgy, under the presidency of Very Rev. Fr. Babken Salbiyan, the Prelate of Samtskhe-Javakheti and Tsalka's General Prelacy of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia; and with the participation of Rev. Father Tatev Marukyan, Pastor of Akhalkalaki and nearby villages, at the Surb Hovhannes Mkrtich Church of the village. The celebrant was the Pastor of Kartsakh village, Rev. Father Tigran Mkhitaryan. In attendance were the RA People’s Artist Ruben Matevosyan; Sos Sahakyan, the President of the Board of Trustees of the ARS Javakhk Fund; Executive Director of the Support to Javakhk Foundation Ashot Hakobyan; Valery Stelmashov, the Cultural Department Head of Akhalkalaki Municipality; Ashot Melkonyan, director of Armenian National Academy of Sciences' Institute of History; delegates of the Headquarters of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, the diocesan officials and others.

Following the Divine Liturgy, the guests visited the home-museum of Jivani, renovated and refurbished by the Support to Javakhk Foundation, and participated in the solemn opening ceremony. In attendance were the representatives of Georgian and Armenian authorities, culture workers and guests from Tbilisi, different cities and regions across Armenia, Georgia.

The celebration in Kartsakh village concluded with a festive event and reception on the hill located nearby.

According to tradition, the Armenians of Tbilisi paid homage to Great Jivani. On the same day in the morning Armenian intellectuals, led by the Editor of the “Vrastan” Newsletter (“Georgia”) Van Baiburtyan, gathered at the Tbilisi Pantheon of the Armenian Writers and Public Figures “Khojivank”, where Jivani is buried.

Here, the Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, His Grace, Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, presided over a Repose of Souls service, incense was burned. In attendance were the officials and actors of Tbilisi State Drama Theatre after Petros Adamyan, Tbilisi-Armenian intellectuals, as well as guests from Armenia. The attendees laid flowers on the tomb of Jivani and the tombs of other Armenian Greats.
