Candlelight Divine Liturgy Celebrated in the Armenian Diocese in Georgia PDF Print E-mail

On April 15, 2017, the Eve of the Feast of the Glorious Resurrection of Jesus Christ, a Candlelight Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the churches of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia. That day, according to established ceremony, lamps are lighted in the Church, the curtain of the holy altar is open, lit candles are distributed to the faithful, following which the Divine Liturgy is held.

Right Rev. Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, presided over a Candlelight Divine Liturgy in the Cathedral of Saint George. The celebrant was the Pastor of the Church, Rev. Father Samvel Torosyan. In attendance were diplomats from the RA Embassy in Georgia, honorary members of Armenian community in Tbilisi, guests and the faithful.

During the Divine Liturgy, the Message of His Holiness Karekin II Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians on the Feast of the Holy Resurrection of Jesus Christ was read by the celebrant.

Rev. Father Samvel Torosyan announced the good news of the Lord's Resurrection. The faithful welcomed each other on the occasion of the Glorious Resurrection of Christ conveying the great tiding.

At the conclusion of Divine Liturgy, the Diocesan Primate congratulated the parish on the occasion of the Lord’s Resurrection, asking the Lord to grant peace and prosperity to Armenia and Georgia.

Following the Divine Liturgy the faithful took lit candles and lamps home symbolizing the divine light and the blessing of the Church. Later the first Home Blessing Service at Easter was conducted. Bread, water and salt were blessed.

At the initiative of the godfather of the Cathedral of Saint George, Yuri Yeremyan, and Church-loving Women’s Association, following the services, a reception took place in the courtyard of the Cathedral of Saint George. The faithful visited the church till late.

The Divine Liturgy in honor of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ was celebrated in all the churches of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia.
