Commemorative service in Javakheti |
On April 16, Archimandrite Ter-Babken Salbiyan, Prelate of Samtskhe-Javakheti’sGeneral Prelacy, together with Fathers Ter-Armash Poghosyan and Ter-Tatev Maroukian delivered a commemorative service in memory of the victims of the Khorenia and Aragyal villages, killed in the early part of May 1918. “True Christian Armenians love justice and truth, for 'love is the fulfilling of the law'. Unity has never destroyed any nation, on the contrary, it is used to turn something small and insignificant into something big and glorious. This was always the conviction that lead us to victory”, said Archimandrite Te Khorenia villagers attended the service and prayed for the souls of those who were killed by cannon fire or burned to death in barns in 1918. “We now stand on the bones of those Armenians – more than 600 inhabitants of Khorenia village, more than 200 inhabitants of Takhcha village, as well as many others from Abul and other villages. Our generation has to respect and pay homage to their memory”, mentioned literary critic, Zhora Snkhchian. At the end, the Prelate read the Prayer for Protection, blessed the congregation present and laid flowers for the immortality of the souls of victims.
