Event Dedicated to the Commemoration of Saint Virgins and to the Exaltation of the Role of the Armenian Woman at Hayartun Center PDF Print E-mail

On December 14, 2014, the Association of Armenian Women of Georgia “Shushanik”, in cooperation with the Armenian Diocese in Gerogia, initiated an event, dedicated to the role of the Armenian woman both in spiritual and social life. It took place in Calouste Gulbenkian Hall at Hayartun Center. Mrs. Elionora Vardanyan, the wife of Yuri Vardanyan, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of RA to Georgia, attended the event.

Opening the evening, the president of the Association of Armenian Women of Georgia “Shushanik”, Susanna Khachatryan praised highly the role of the Armenian woman in the struggle for faith and for the Motherland. She emphasized that even today the Armenian woman continues to remain faithful to her Church, her mother tongue and to her nation.

The clergyman of the Armenian Diocese in Gerogia, Priest Manuk Zeynalyan, presented the devotion and martyrdom of Saint Virgins Gayane and Hripsime in his interesting and informative speech. And Father Samvel Torosyan of Surb Echmiadzin Church talked about the life of Saint Shushanik and highlighted her role in the lives of two Christian nations. The Father expressed his gratitude to the organization of the same name, which initiated the event.

Angela Saroyan, a student of Tbilisi’s State University, made a speech about the role of the woman and her devotion to the Motherland in all the periods of Armenian nation’s history. The participants listened with interest about heroic Sose Mayrig (Mother), the first Armenian female diplomat Diana Abgar, the first Western Armenian female writer Zabel Yesayan and about the first Armenian female commander during the Artsakh Liberation War Anahit Martirosyan.

Fascinating performance of the Choir of the Saint Echmiadzin Church, choirmaster Svetlana Tatoeva, accompanied by Karen Mirzoyan, adorned the evening, which became a cozy occasion dedicated the Exaltation of the Role of the Armenian Woman.
