According to the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church Calendar on October 12 the Feast of the Translators Sahak Partev, Mesrop Mashtots and their disciples was celebrated. For the Armenian people this is one of the most favorite and beloved national-ecclesiastical feasts.

The Feast of the Holy Translators was properly celebrated at the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia. On October 11, concert of piano music dedicated to this feast and performed by Mamikon Nahapetov, who is the native of Tbilisi and at present resides and works in Germany, took place. On October 12, under the presidency of the Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanian, the Divine Liturgy was served at Surb Etchmiadzin Church in Tbilisi. Sacristan of the Cathedral of Saint George Priest Husik Harutyunyan conducted the divine service. It is particularly remarkable that the kids from St. Movses Khorenatsi Kindergarten and the students of St.Grigor Narekatsi one-day school were among the faithful.

Upon completion of the Liturgy the Head of the Diocese delivered a sermon in connection with the holiday, he spoke about national outstanding figures in the annals of the Armenian people and the Armenian Church – King Vramshapuh, Catholicos Sahak Partev, venerable Mesrob Mashtots and their disciples. He spoke in detail about their enormous role in the creation of the Armenian alphabet and the development of Armenian history, science and philosophy, through which the nation has its own alphabet, and belongs to one of the most ancient and civilized nations of the world.

After that the procession of the faithful headed to the Tbilisi Pantheon of the Armenian Writers and Public Figures “Khojivank”, where they bowed before the memory of the great representatives of the Armenian people, and a prayer for the repose of the soles was served. The editor of "Vrastan" ("Georgia") Van Baiburtian and Chairman of the Union of Armenian Painters of Georgia Meruzhan Shahumyan congratulated on the holiday and encouraged to continue the work of the Holy Teachers.

The Calouste Gulbenkian Hall of the “Hayartun” Cultural Center at the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia hosted the next event, dedicated to the Feast of the Holy Translators, where at the initiative of the “Vernatun” Union of Armenian Writers of Georgia and with the support of RA Ministry of Diaspora literary competition awards ceremony among the school students was held.

The Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanian, the poet and translator Givi Shakhnazari, the poet and Chairman of "Kamurj" Public, Literary and Cultural Organization Anahit Bostanjian, writers, the leaders of Armenian public organizations, teachers and parents attended the solemn ceremony. School students from the villages of Akhalkalaki, Ninotsminda and Marneuli regions also attended the event.

Narine Tukhikian, the Head of Hovhannes Tumanyan House-Museum in Yerevan, and the Syrian Armenian actress Mayta Boshkezian were the honored guest of the award ceremony.

The event started with Our Father Prayer, after that President of the “Vernatun” Union of Armenian Writers of Georgia Gevorg Snkhchian, mentioning the goals and objectives of the competition, stressed voluntary nature of the competition. He read out the requirements of the contest - literary works on the following topics: the Armenian Genocide, the 500th Anniversary of Armenian printing, friendly relations between the Armenian and Georgian people. 70 students from Tbilisi and Armenian-populated regions of Georgia participated in the competition. From submitted works the best 25 were chosen and submitted to RA Ministry of Diaspora.

Without waiting for the announcement of the results by RA Ministry of Diaspora, the “Vernatun” Union of Armenian Writers of Georgia summed up the contest.

Narine Tukhikian, the Head of Hovhannes Tumanyan House-Museum in Yerevan, congratulated the winners of the contest and presented them with the diplomas and rare samples of Tumanyan’s works.

The poet and translator Anahit Bostanjian welcomed the initiative, she sent good wished to the participants, and personally congratulated the poet and translator Givi Shakhnazari on the professional day, who during 60 years of activities through his brilliant translations
had introduced the Georgian society with the pearls of the Armenian literature.

On behalf of the winners the authors of the best works – the school student of Jigrashen village in Ninotsminda region Armine Gevorgian and the student of School # 104 in Tbilisi Aram Grigorian delivered a thank-you speech.

At the end of the event the Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanian blessed the audience and highly appreciated the organization of the competition. Hi Grace stressed the importance of the events, aimed at the development of creative thinking and reading, which would contribute to the development of Armenian literature, Armenian art, an Armenian culture in Georgia, and would bring up the best children of the nation.

The Feast of the Holy Translators was celebrated with the Divine Liturgy at all operating churches of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia.
