Since the 13th century, the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church steadily celebrates the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary on September 8. The celebration of the feast with pilgrimage has become a beautiful tradition at the Armenian Diocese in Georgia. The Virgin Mary the Holy Mother of God (Surb Mariam Astvatsatsin) church in the village of Pokr Daghet (Small Daghet), Tetritskaro, Kvemo Kartli region became a place of pilgrimage for the Armenian faithful of Tbilisi. On the morning of September 8, 2018, more than five dozen faithful left for pilgrimage to the sanctuary from the Saint Etchmiadzin church in Tbilisi, led by the Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, accompanied by Rev. Father Husik Harutyunyan, Pastor of Armenians in Bolnisi and Tetritskaro region and Deacons Gevorg Antonyan and Yeghishe Harutyunyan. The faithful from the villages of Daghet and Samshvilde joined the pilgrims from Tbilisi in this powerful church which is standing alone far from people in the lap of nature. The Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia celebrated Divine Liturgy in the crowded church. The Divine Liturgy harmonized with the singing of hymns and psalms by the Choir of the Saint Etchmiadzin church in Avlabari (Choirmaster Luiza Vardanova) and the ringing of the bell gifted by Perikhanyan's family and blessed by the Diocesan Primate. During the Divine Liturgy, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan preached about the mystery of the day, the birth of Holy Virgin Mary, daughter of Saint Joachim and Saint Anne, commented on devotion of the Holy Mother of God, urged the faithful to live with Christian commandments and Church messages and encouraged them to be inspired with Virgin Mary's virtue and light. His Grace congratulated those, whose name is Mary on the occasion of the Feast. His Grace Bishop Vazgen noted that the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary has a special significance for him because after being ordained a celibate priest and 40-day preparation period in 1991, he had celebrated his first Divine Liturgy on September 8, at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. The Diocesan Primate blessed the worthy sons of Daghet village – Arsen Aghamiryan, Seyran Perikhanyan Artyom Arushanyan, Levon Karakhanyan and David Davtyan, thanks to whose donations the House of God was renovated as well as Leyla Perikhanyan, who cares for the church with love and devotion. His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan highly appreciated the devoted service of the Pastor of Bolnisi and Tetritskaro regions and the participation of deacons and the Choir of the Saint Etchmiadzin church in the pilgrimage. The faithful listened to the sermon of the day with great interest and took Holy Communion. At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, in the lap of beautiful nature, a reception took place organized by the pilgrims and locals. Daghet, Daghet – Khachen is an Armenian-populated village in Tetritskaro region, Georgia. The village was founded by Armenians from Khachen province in Karabakh. The village had a church named Holy Mother of God (Surb Astvatsatsin) built in the 18th century, which was closed for decades and was in an emergency condition. After the renovation, the church was solemnly re-consecrated by the Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, in 2013, where Divine Liturgies are traditionally celebrated and pilgrims visit the church on the occasion of the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
