1On June 20, 2018, a festive event took place at the Tawapa Yazidi temple of the Yazidi community in Tbilisi. On the occasion of the day, God’s service was offered and a colorful piece of woven fabrics was raised at the top of the temple's dome. Yazidi spiritual figures, members of the diocese from various corners of the world had specially arrived on the occasion of the event. Chairman of the State Agency for Religious Issues Zaza Vashakhmadze, representatives of various religious associations, international organizations and diplomatic corps in Georgia attended the event. The Armenian Diocese in Georgia was represented by the Deacon Gevorg Antonyan, assistant to the Diocesan Primate and Michael Avagyan, Head of the Legal Affairs and Cooperation Department of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia. At the event Zaza Vashakhmadze congratulated the Yazidi community and guests on the occasion of the feast. Michael Avagyan delivered a speech and made congratulatory remarks. The latter conveyed to the Yazidi community the blessings and congratulations of the Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia. The speaker touched upon the disaster of Genocide of both Armenian and Yazidi people, emphasized that the Armenian people has recognized and condemned the terrible Genocide committed against the Yazidi people. Speaking about the centuries – long friendship between the Armenian and Yazidi peoples, the latter mentioned the activities of Jangir Agha, Aram Tigran and Lazo, Andranik Ozanyan, who were apologists of friendship between Armenian and Yazidi people and were glorified by the Yazidi people. In the evening, at the center of Betel, the Yazidi community delegation was received by the Bishop of the Evangelical Baptist Church in Georgia His Eminence Malkhaz Songhulashvili. The parties discussed the Yazidi and Christian relations and the situation of the Yazidis in Iraq.
