On June 2, 2018, students of the “Surb Nshan” (Holy Sign) Educational and Cultural Center, led by Rev. Father George Krtikashyan, Pastor of the Saint Sargis church in Armavir and Deaconess Hasmik Mkhitaryan, Choirmaster of the RA Armavir Diocese arrived in Tbilisi and were hosted at the Armenian Diocese in Georgia. The aim of the visit was to acquaint the teenagers from Armenia with Armenian traces in Tbilisi, as well as establish mutual contacts with the students of the “Hayartun” Center of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia. The guests visited the Cathedral of Saint George in Tbilisi and attended the festive Divine Liturgy, celebrated under the leadership of the Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan on the occasion of the Deliverance of Gregory the Illuminator from the pit. During the Divine Liturgy spiritual songs and hymns were performed by the guests – “Surb Nshan” Choir, led by Choirmaster Hasmik Mkhitaryan. At the end of the Divine Liturgy, the Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia offered his blessings to the guests and highly appreciated their skills to perform spiritual songs and wished them have a nice and interesting day in Tbilisi. After participating in the Divine Liturgy and receiving Holy Communion, the guests moved to the Saint Etchmiadzin church in Avlabari. At the Calouste Gulbenkian Hall of “Hayartun” Center an exhibition of children’s paintings were organized, the works of students of painting group of the “Surb Nshan” Educational and Cultural Center were shown. The attendees got acquainted with the “Surb Nshan” Center’s activity also through the concert entitled “To My Homeland” which took place at the “Hayartun” Center. It was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Heroic Battle of Sardarapat. The concert was spectacular. All songs were performed at the high level, by talented students. Wonderful performances of violinist Margarita Krtikashyan, baritone George Ginosyan and pianist Elen Sahakyan received thunderous ovation and performances of “Surb Nshan” Choir charmed the attendees and Choirmaster Hasmik Mkhitaryan received warm rounds of applause for her hard efforts to present high level performances. Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan offered his blessings to the attendees. Highly appreciating the beautiful concert of the Center’s Choir, His Grace named their singing the resurrection, because their song is struggle for life, the call of creation, the commemoration of the Heroic Battle of Sardarapat. Diocesan Primate presented Choirmaster Hasmik Mkhitaryan with the quadrilingual book-album of Sayat-Nova’s poems and urged to include Sayat-Nova’s songs in their repertoire. Rev. Father George Krtikashyan expressed his gratitude to the Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, as well as clergy and secular staff of the Diocese for warm reception and an unforgettable day. The visit of Choir “Nshan” of the “Surb Nshan” Center of the village of Gai in Armavir region ended with interesting acquaintances and bright impressions. The “Surb Nshan” Center adjunct to Saint Sargis church in the village of Gai, began its activities since 2002, has organized and implemented courses of painting, embroidery, carpet weaving, theater, singing, first aid, computer, decorative and applied art, ceramics. The learning process was saturated with spiritual conversations, educational sermons, pilgrimages and spiritual and cultural events. The main aim of the Spiritual, Educational and Cultural Center in Gai is increasing the role of education and culture in the upbringing and development of young generation.
