teyaxmutyun1Hovhannes Tumayan’s apartment in Tbilisi has been a gathering place for Armenian intelligentsia of Tbilisi for many years.  Almost every day, intellectuals, well-known people of the nation gathered here, around the tea table. They were drinking a cup of tea, discussing various issues related to literature, culture and community life, talking and expressing their attitudes and point of view on the events and affairs of the time. The gathering around the tea table was one of the most favorite traditions of Tumanyan's family. The tradition is being renewed in our days, after 95 years since the death of the Poet of All Armenians, in the renovated, beautifully decorated “House of Hovhannes Tumanyan” Center for Science and Culture, located at 18 Amaghleba Street in Tbilisi.    
Just a few days ago, the process of furnishing Tumanyan's former apartment, in accordance with the spirit of his time, was completed with the support of Mrs. Rita Sargsyan, wife of the third president of the Republic of Armenia. The apartment was saturated with the breath of the years of Poet's life, such an atmosphere was created due to renovation, furnishing, as well as items and objects of that period. The hospitable atmosphere of Tumanyan's home contributed to the realization of the idea of restoring the tradition of tea party in the apartment.
On April 15, 2018, under the leadership of the Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan and with participation of Diocesan officials the first meeting around the tea table in Hovhannes Tumanyan's home took place.
The traditional tea table was decorated with the truly royal samovar (self-boiler) and expensive tableware as well as different cakes and sweeties, in accordance with Tbilisi’s routine. Around the traditional tea table guests were sitting the: Director of the Department of Culture of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia Levon Chidilyan, Director of Educational Department Eugenia Markosyan, Director of the Press Department Susanna Khachatryan, Director of the Youth Department Valeri Badalyan, Director of the Financial Department Margarita Kirakosyan, Director of the Administrative Department Karen Yeritsyan, director of the “House of Hovhannes Tumanyan” Center for Science and Culture Gisane Hovsepyan, head of the puppet theatre Armen Hovhannisyan, cameraman – photographer Gevorg Poghosov, Coordinator of Youth programs Nina Seropova, actor Ashot Simonyan, volunteer of the “Hayartun” Center Marina Sumakhyan.
Rev. Father Kirakos Simonyan, spiritual superintendant of the “House of Hovhannes Tumanyan” Center, blessed the tea table.
The speech of the Diocesan Primate became an expression of gratitude of Armenian community in Georgia to worthy sons of the Armenian nation and the first lady for their donations, because the apartment of the Poet of All Armenians, staying true to its predestination, was returned to Armenians of Tbilisi. After the blessings and good wishes of His Grace, the joyful and pleasant conversation started, during which interesting memories of Tumanyan’s life were told, as well as humorous stories, traditions related to the apartment of the poet, historical events of the time.
The attendees also congratulated Gisane Hovsepyan on her birthday.
They say that the around a table issues get right solutions, it brings peoples closer and makes them friendly. It was decided to restore the tradition of tea party in the “House of Hovhannes Tumanyan” Center for Science and Culture for such warm and friendly meetings, to beautify the community life and direct it correctly. It will also become a guarantee for the strengthening of the consolidation of the Armenian community in Georgia, as well as for consistent activity and positive progress.
