On June 3, 2017, the Alexander Mantashev Educational Cultural and Youth Center in Batumi at the Armenian Diocese in Georgia hosted the celebration of songs of Sayat-Nova. At the initiative of the Center the traditional Sayat-Nova Vardaton (Feast of Roses) has been celebrated over the years in Batumi, because the people’s love for the great poet, who praised love, friendship and justice, is eternal.
Consul General of the Republic of Armenia in Batumi Yeghishe Sargsyan, Rev. Father Ararat Gumbalyan, Pastor of Armenians in Adjaria, Guria, Imereti, and the Surb Prkich Church (Saint Savior), community officials, and Armenian civil society representatives of Batumi took their seats in the hall. In her opening remarks, Director of the Alexander Mantashyants Educational-Cultural and Youth Center Sona Hovhannisyan briefed on the history of “Vardaton”, and mentioned that the legacy of the troubadour is very important for the strengthening of bonds between the Armenians and the Georgians, she attached importance to the poetry and music of great Sayat-Nova, who glorified in his works universal ideas, which after 300 years have not lost their relevance. Later, a program was held with the participation of the Aghbyur Youth Vocal Ensemble, the Heghnar Dance Group and the drama circle. The program was punctuated by musical performances and poetry recitations by the Aghbyur Youth Vocal Ensemble, the Heghnar Dance Group, the students of a drama circle, recitation classes. The event was organized by joint efforts of teachers Ruzanna Hovhannisyan, Satenik Danielyan, Merine Poghosyan. The concert participants presented the attendees with one red rose as a symbol of the event.
