On April 7, 2017, 80 Armenian faithful of the Saint Etchmiadzin Church in Tbilisi made a pilgrimage to the Surb Astvatsatsin Church (Holy Mother of God) in the village of Shahumyan in the region of Kvemo Kartli.

On the occasion of the Feast of the Annunciation to St. Mary, a Divine Liturgy was offered in the Surb Astvatsatsin Church (Holy Mother of God), built in the 19th century and repaired a few years ago with the financial assistance of the Headquarters of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia and the support of benefactors. The celebrant and preacher was Rev. Fr. Manuk Zeynalyan, Dean of the St. Etchmiadzin Church in Avlabari. Rev. Father Narek Ghushyan, the Pastor of Armenians in Kvemo-Kartli region of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia; deacons and the Saint Etchmiadzin Church choir (Choirmaster – Luiza Vardanyan) having specially arrived from Tbilisi, participated in the Divine Liturgy. During the Liturgy the Armenian faithful from Tbilisi were joined by local inhabitants.

During the Divine Liturgy, the celebrant offered a sermon reflecting on the mystery of the day - the Annunciation to St. Mary. He spoke about how the Angel Gabriel brought the good news to the Virgin about the birth of the Savior. In his sermon, Rev. Fr. Manuk Zeynalyan highlighted that having the perfect example of the Blessed Virgin Mary as a perfect Mother role model, women had educated their children through faith, love, and devotion for the Homeland and brought their contribution to social life.

At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, during which the curtain remained open, the faithful partook of Confession and took Holy Communion.

In the churches of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia named for the Holy Mother of God, blessing of women expecting the joy of motherhood was offered.
