The new academic year of 2015/16 started in the “Surb Grigor Narekatsi” (“Saint Gregory of Narek”) Saturday School and in the “Surb Yeghia Margare” (“Saint Prophet Ilya”) Sunday school.

On September 12, the Director of the Educational Department of the Diocese, Eugenia Markosyan and the teacher Tamara Gaboyan warmly welcomed and congratulated about 60 Armenian students of different ages at the “Surb Grigor Narekatsi” Saturday School.

On September 13, the Armenian lessons began in the “Surb Yeghia Margare” Sunday school. The teacher Roza Zohrabyan welcomed the young students, who came to learn their mother tongue and the letters created by Mesrop Mashtots. The Director of the Educational Department and the teachers distributed the Aybbenarans (alphabet book) and writing-books among the first-graders. The second-graders received handbooks in accordance with the school program. The Director of the Educational Department informed everyone about some changes in the educational program, according to which the Armenian Literature will be taught as an independent subject for the second-graders.

One-day schools of Armenian language teach literacy, grammar and literature, and help the students develop communication skills in Armenian. The schools also teach the subject of the History of the Armenian People and the Armenian Church. The tuition is free of charge and lasts two years.

There were more than 100 newcomers this year. For the ones who want to learn Armenian the registration still continues at the “Hayartun” Center till the end of September.
