The Youth Department of the Diocese initiated tours in Tbilisi for young Armenians during summer vacation, with a view to acquainting the young generation with the sightseeing places of the city and showing the Armenian cultural footprint.

On July 8, 2015, the Coordinator of the Youth Activities of the Department, Nina Seropova and student of the Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and activist from Khodjabek village (Ninotsminda region), Revik Karapetyan conducted the first tour in Old Tbilisi. Young Armenians visited the ruins of the Church of the Red Gospel, the Mantashev Trade Rows built by architect Sarkisov and Sergey Parajanov’s monument and discussed the films and compositions of the talented director.

The participants of the tour had a chance to see the reconstruction work on the Surb Gevorg Vicarial Church of the VII century and on the Norashen Church. Then they visited the Freedom Square and learned that the square changed its name a number of times; it was originally called “Erivan Square” in 1827 named after Ivan Paskevich,  later under the Soviet Union, the square was renamed "Lenin Square".

The tour was impressive and very interesting, especially because of the explanations provided by Revik Karapetyan, who studies the Armenian cultural footprints in Tbilisi. It was decided to continue to conduct the tours.
