In 1981 the UN General Assembly launched an initiative to involve youth representatives from member countries in the official delegations.

This project is successfully conducted in more than 30 countries, including Georgia. The country joined this initiative in 2012. The delegate selected through the competition is going to represent Georgian youth at the Headquarters of the United Nations in New-York City, USA.

The competition is open for any interested active young citizen from 18 to 25 years with high academic achievements.

The Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of Georgia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia conduct the competition, which consists of three stages:

- On the first stage, applicants are assessed on the basis of eligibility of submitted documents;

- On the second stage, selected candidates from the first level are interviewed by the commission members. The interviews are conducted in English;

- On the third stage, the best candidates, who pass the previous stages, had to deliver a speech (in English) during a public event specially organized by the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of Georgia.

First-time candidate, our compatriot, Giorgi Tumasyan has successfully passed two stages of the competition. Promising young Armenian candidate is a four-year student in the Free University of Tbilisi. In addition to high academic achievements, Giorgi Tumasyan is actively involved in public life. He’s the Secretary General of the World Peace Alliance Georgian office.

Giorgi is going to present his speech on June 25. The results of the competition will be announced on June 26.

In case of victory Giorgi Tumasyan will go to New-York and participate in the UN 70^th anniversary session as the Georgian Youth Representative. As a member of the Georgian UN Delegation he will take part in the events and hearings of the General Assembly Third Committee will deliver speeches and participate in the decision-making related to youth issues during one year. We wish him good luck in achieving his set goal!
