On June 10, 2015, the students of 2014/2015 academic year from the “Saint Gregory of Narek” Saturday school and the “Saint Yeghia” Sunday school attended the evening service delivered by the Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, Rev. Fr. Ter Husik Harutyunyan and Rev. Fr. Ter Narek Ghushchyan in the Saint Etchmiadzin Church, Tbilisi. The national project coordinator at the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, Karine Manukyan, the Director of the “Hayartun” Center, Levon Chidilyan, parents, teachers and many others were present. The Director of the Educational Department of the Diocese, Eugenia Markosyan congratulated the students, who successfully finished the classes of literacy and history.

One-day schools, supported by the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Holy Church in Georgia, are aimed at the preservation of the Armenian language in the community and ensuring the teaching of the Armenian nation’s and Armenian Church’s history.

The “Saint Yeghia” Sunday school, founded 20 years ago by the greatly lamented, Archbishop Gevorg Seraydaryan and the “Saint Gregory of Narek” Saturday school have six classes, where the students of different ages are given the opportunity to learn their Mother tongue.

Students, like Emil Sargsyan from the “Saint Yeghia” Sunday School (teacher – Roza Zohrabyan) and Narek Hovsepyan from the “Saint Gregory of Narek” Saturday School (teacher – Tamara Gaboyan), who could barely speak Armenian before attending the school, now surprised everyone with their beautiful recitation. 50 second-grade students from 57, participated in the graduation exams and received certificates.

The Primate of the Armenian Diocese blessed the people present and appreciated highly the activity of the Director of the Educational Department, Eugenia Markosyan, teachers Roza Zohrabyan and Tamara Gaboyan, Deacon Gevorg Antonyan. His Grace encouraged the parents to speak Armenian at home in order to preserve the Mother tongue and told the students that they should be proud of their identity, be close to the Armenian Church and engage in the “Hayartun” Center’s activities.

The graduation exams are also conducted in Batumi “Saint Mesrop Mashtots”, Qobuleti “Vramshapuh” and Ozurgeti “Sahak Parthev” One-day Schools, currently operational with the support of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia.
