Georgian Committee Meeting in Javakheti PDF Print E-mail

On March 27, 2015 another meeting of the Georgian regional committee on the organization of the events regarding the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide was held at Akhalkalaki City Hall building in Samtskhe-Javakheti. Here in Akhalkalaki committee members from Tbilisi joined their colleagues from Ninotsminda and Tsalka, the deputies from the Parliament of Georgia, Samvel Petrosyan and Henzel Mkoyan, the heads of local assemblies and administration.

Rev. Fr. Babgen Salbiyan, The Vicar General of Samtskhe-Javakheti’s general prelacy, welcomed the guests and delivered a commemorative service at Akhalkalaki Surb Khach (St. Cross) Church in memory of the Armenian Genocide victims.

The Primate of the Armenian Diocese, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan opened the session and spoke about the conducted work and presented in detail further projects. The deputies of Armenian origin also reported on their work. During the meeting the members of the committee encouraged to continue working towards the recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide by the Georgian government. Local authorities presented to the committee members the events to be held in their regions.

The president of the committee informed about the photos and flags prepared thanks to charity funds and gave them to regional authorities, who will organize as appropriate the photography exhibitions showing the crime of genocide. The member of the committee, Levon Chidilyan commented on the photos and explained the order of their demonstration.

Civil society representatives showed the signed petition addressed to local regional assemblies of Ninotsminda and Akhalkalaki requesting to recognize and condemn the Armenian Genocide on the local level.

Once again reference was made to the importance of the core principals of the events dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide: memory, indemnification, condemnation, Gratitude and revival. The financial part of the events was discussed as well.

Students from Akhalkalaki youth center gave impressive flyers containing a child’s demand on recognition and condemnation of the genocide with the sign of forget-me-not.

The committee members visited Akhalkalaki youth center after the meeting, where the coordinator of the Armenian non-governmental organizations of Javakheti and Kvemo Kartli, Artak Gabrielyan, welcomed the guests. They attended a literary and musical concert of the center’s recitation class.

The Primate of the diocese highly appreciated patriotic activity of the center and promised to assist the center in the future.
