On March 19, 2015 the hall named after Calouste Gulbenkian in the “Hayartun” Center of the Armenian Diocese welcomed students, teachers and management from Tbilisi № 104 Public School. The compilation of poems in memory of the Armenian Genocide victims by Hovhannes Shiraz was dedicated to the 100th birthday anniversary of the great Armenian poet. A literary and musical montage was performed by the teacher of Armenian language and Literature, Karine Hovhannisyan, with the participation of the 10thgrade students. The event was held first in the school auditorium and was so successful that the management of the “Hayartun” Center suggested presenting it to a larger audience of the Armenian community in Georgia.

The Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan also attended the event together with parents, teachers and Shiraz poetry enthusiasts.

The poems written in verse were read regarding the Motherland, the Armenian language, and were dedicated to the mother, lost Masis, to Armenians deprived of their homeland, and were expressing the unfulfilled desire of the poet for seeing Ani and dying at the base of the Masis mountain.

A touching recitation was accompanied by the performances of songs with lyrics by Hovhannes Shiraz . The patriotic and lyrical poems by Hovhannes Shiraz stirred the audience to reflect upon the horrifying path endured by the Armenian people.

He was an ideologist for our people; his poetry is a gift to the Armenian language, Christianity, to the centuries-old Armenian culture and to our sacred Homeland. This event is inspiring for the younger generation”, concluded the Primate of the Diocese. His Grace thanked the director of the school, Irina Zhamkochyan, teacher Karine Hovhannisyan and students who took part in the preparation of the literary and musical montage.

The director of the “Hayartun” Center’s Cultural Department, Levon Chidilyan, gave the icon of Saint Gregory of Narek as a gift to Tbilisi № 104 Public School, and to the 10th grade student who received books with Armenological games.
