Georgian Regional Committee Fifth Meeting on 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide Related Issues in Tbilisi PDF Print E-mail

On February 12, 2015 the fifth wide meeting of the Georgian regional committee on the organization of the events regarding the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide was held at the “Hayartun” center of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia. In addition to the committee members, the heads of Akhalkalaki and Ninotsminda local administrations and the presidents of local assemblies were invited.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Mr. Yuri Vardanyan also attended the meeting.

The members of the committee visited “One Hundred Photos” exhibition in Calouste Gulbenkian hall. The electronic copy of the exhibits was provided to the “Hayartun” center by the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute (Director, Hayk Demoyan). This was the first among numerous events dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, the Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, started the meeting with the prayer and presented the agenda. The representatives of local administrative bodies of Samtskhe-Javakheti spoke about the events planned in the region. Georgia’s General Assembly deputies of Armenian origin reported on scheduled tasks regarding the recognition and condemnation of the Armenian genocide. The Armenian Diocese, RA Embassy in Georgia, Petros Adamian Tbilisi State Armenian Drama Theatre, “Vrastan” (“Georgia”) newspaper and non-governmental organizations also plan to hold events.

Georgia’s General Assembly deputies of Armenian origin presented measures that were taken and told about their encouraging and promising meeting with the Minister of Justice, Tea Tsulukiani, regarding the matter of deprivation of citizenship of Armenians, who also had Armenian citizenship.

The committee considered the issue of its members’ change. Yuri Vardanyan summarized the work of the meeting, the next session of which planned to be held on March 2.
