Clergy Conference at the Armenian Diocese in Georgia PDF Print E-mail

On December 22, 2014, the clergy of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia participated in the closing conference, which was held in Vardan Jinishyan Hall of the Hayartun Center. The conference started by the prayer in Tbilisi’s Saint Echmiadzin Church.

The leader of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan presided at the conference together with the head of Samtskhe-Javakheti’s prelacy of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, Father Babgen Salbiyan.

The leader of the diocese reported about the works undertaken in year 2014 and informed the participants that the list of the Armenian churches functioning before the Sovietization of Georgia, is presented to the Georgian government, asking to return them.

The development of spiritual, cultural and Christian education was a major theme discussed during the conference.

At the conference they refered to the upcoming regional events, which are going to be organized within the framework of 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide; the participation to the projects to be envisaged by the Motherland was discussed as well.

Some organizational issues regarding the clergy discipline problems were also considered. The leader of the Diocese and the Vicar General answered priests’ questions.

Levon Isakhanyan, the head of the Department of Legal Affairs and Cooperation also attended the conference. He raised the issue of the awareness of people in the regions; he suggested informing them either by print or online media sources on the relevant matters regarding new laws, government decrees adopted in Georgia, the church and social activities.

Milena Oganesyan, the head of Analytical Research and PR Center, presented the results of the recent poll related to the activity of the Diocese.

Innessa Sarukhanyan, the head of Georgia’s Armenian Community Census Center, acquainted the participants with the results of the census of Georgia’s citizens of Armenian origin, initiated by the Diocese. It was suggested to establish local institutions in Samtskhe-Javakheti and Batumi in order to facilitate the census process.

The participants evaluated positively the undertaken works.

At the end of the conference, the leader of the Diocese and the Vicar General gave instructions to conduct corresponding activities in the regions.
