On November 21, 2014 members of the Council for Religious Minorities adjunct to the People’s Defender of Georgia had a meeting with the President of Georgia in his residence. The Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan and the director of Legal Affairs and Cooperation Department of the Diocese, Levon Isakhanyan, also took part in the meeting. The President’s Advisor for the issues of Ethnic Minorities, Sophio Shamanidi, also attended the meeting.

The President of Georgia, Giorgi Margvelashvili, highly estimated the meeting in the dialogue format, initiated by the People’s Defender. The President stated that such meetings would contribute to the better development of tolerance in Georgia and the closer relations with European countries.
People’s Defender of Georgia, Ucha Nanuashvili, highlighted the involvement of religious minorities in the process of the democratic development of the country. Ucha Nanuashvili also stated that the meetings with members of religious minorities would contribute to their involvement in the process of governing the country. It would also contribute to the exchange of information and the common solution of possible problems.
During the meeting the Armenian Diocese in Georgia raised such questions as returning the churches, making a compensation for property, confiscated during Soviet years. They also discussed the issues related to teaching the state language in Javakhk and Tsalka in a big range. To solve the latter question would mean to help the local non-Georgian population to integrate into the Georgian society.
The President of Georgia and the People’s Defender accepted the issues raised by the members of the Council for Religious Minorities. It was unanimously decided to make such meetings in a dialogue format continuous.
