According to the 2014 calendar of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church, October 11 is the commemoration day of Holy Teachers and Translators and their pupils. This national and church holiday was celebrated with different events at the Armenian Diocese in Georgia. Divine Liturgy, devoted to Holy Translators’ day, was conducted in Tbilisi St. Echmiadzin Church early in the morning. Believers listened to the sermon on the meaning of the day, read by the officiating priest at Akhlatskha St. Gregory the Illuminator Church, spiritual shepherd Senior Priest Yeghishe Harutyunyan, who valued the role of St. Mesrop Mashtots, Sahak Partev and their pupils in the creation of the Armenian alphabet, in the preservation of the nation and in the strengthening of faith.

At the end of the Holy Mass all the believers and the members of Akhaltskha St. Gregory the Illuminator choir, headed by the spiritual class, visited the Khojivank pantheon of Armenian writers and public figures. Here a requiem was performed in honor of the worthy Armenians and the peace of their souls. The priest Manouk Zeynalyan talked about the role of the Holy Translators in the lives of the Armenian people.

Later the celebration continued in Galust Gyulbenkyan hall of “Hayartun” center at the Armenian Diocese in Georiga. “Nerses Shnorhali” youth choir, which has been functioning since the creation of the center, gave a concert devoted the Translators’ Day and the third anniversary of the choir.

The initiators of the choir, organizers, former and current members, their parents and other guests were among the audience.

The Director of the Cultural Department at the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, and the leader of “Hayartun” Center Levon Chidilyan expressed his appreciation to the choir conductor Maria Abulyan, former Artistic Director of the center Pavel Oganezov, Pianist Karen Mirzoyan, whose efforts resulted in the creation of already a talented choir with its 50 boys and girls.

The choir performed pieces of classical, national and pop music, works of Armenian and Georgian musicians. The choir has participated both in “My Armenia” and “Teacher Komitas” festivals numerous times, and has been awarded with certificates and medals both in Tbilisi and Armenia during the mentioned festivals. After the concert the speakers congratulated the audience on the Translators’ Day, and the young people on their third anniversary.

Translators’ Day was solemnly celebrated with different events in all churches of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia. Divine Liturgy was conducted in Armenian churches of Akhalkalak, Ninotsminda, Akhaltskha, Tsalka, Tetritsgharo, Marneuli and Batumi. This national and church holiday was celebrated with other events in different places.
