There may, indeed, be only few families in the world that have grown up and educated children who later became really famed in different spheres of science. The Orbeli family, with their sons Ruben, Levon and Hovsep, is one of them. The meeting of the representatives of the Armenian community in Tbilisi with the director of Tsaghkadzor house museum Marine Buniatyan and senior researcher Gerasim Mkrtchyan, held on October 4 of the current year in “Hayartun” Center at Armenian Diocese in Georgia, was devoted to the exploration of life and activities of the world famous scientists who were born and grown up in Abgar Orbeli and Varvara Arghutyan-Yerkayanabazouks family, the inhabitants of former Tbilisi Sololak district. They later received higher education in St. Petersburg and settled there.

All the three Orbeli brothers received their initial education in Tbilisi. Having graduated from the local gymnasium number three, they called themselves real Tbilisians. Working on the creation and enrichment of the house-museum for decades, the founders considered it their duty to explore the years of Orbeli brothers in Tbilisi and personally introduce the scientific works of Levon, who is considered to be one of the greatest physiologists of the 20^th century, as well as the works of the founder of underwater Archaeology Ruben, and the works of the great orientalist, archaeologist and a Specialist in historical sources Hovsep; tell the people about the brothers’ ideas and the imaginary world, revealing their scientific activities, national devotion and the immensity of human kindness.

During 35 years of devoting their activities to exploration of the greatness of the scientist brothers, to the excavation, identification and protection of museum materials, as well as introduction to the society, the Buniatyan and Mkrtchyan couple have one by one collected 300 thousand materials about Orbeli brothers; they have examined and fixed the copies of scientific works, letters, memoirs step by step, thus, turning the house-museum into a memorial and an institution full of scientific research departments.

After the interesting and informative speeches, the films “Museum of Orbeli brothers” and “The Orbelis’ code” were shown to the audience. It made a new introduction to the greatness of Ruben, Levon, Hovsep Orbeli and their indelible imprint in the world science.
