Meeting with Armenian national, literary, non-governmental figures living in Beyrut PDF Print E-mail

In the framework of the series "Meeting with the leaders from the Diaspora" there was a meeting with Armenian national, cultural and non-governmental figures living in Beyrut - Zhirayr Danielyan, Sargis Kirakosyan and Hambik Martirosyan. The meeting took place with the initiative of the literary, cultural, non-governmental organization “Bridge” (President Anahit Bostanjyan), on September 14 of the current year, in Galoust Gyulbenkyan hall of the “Hayartun” Center.

The head of the cultural department of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, the leader of “Hayartun” center Levon Chidilyan welcomed the honorable guests, and as beautiful memories he presented some books published with the support of the “Hayartun” center.

The poet, translator Anahit Bostanjyan introduced the literary, public, patriotic and fruitful activities of the editor of “Kamar” (Arch) newspaper Zhirayr Danielyan, the editor of the literary department of “Azdak” (Impulse) newspaper and the editor of “Bagin” journal Hambik Martirosyan. Anahit Bostanjyan mentioned that all the three are members of the Writers’ Union of RA. Zhirayr Danielyan and Hambik Martirosyan are holders of Movses Khorenatsi medal. The speaker talked about the meeting at the Writers’ Union of Georgia stating the interest of the President Maghvala Gonashvili, Manana Dumbadze and other Georgian fellow writers towards the development of the Armenian Literature. She spoke about offers of cooperation, and of mutual projects.

The Armenians from Beyrut noted that it was their first visit to Georgia. Since childhood they had been dreaming of visiting this cheerful and luxurious city, where the Armenian culture and literature had developed, and where the glorious Armenians had lived and composed their works. The guests expressed their gratitude to Anahit Bostanjyan, Levon Chidilyan and Manana Karapetyan for giving them the opportunity to visit the tombs of the glorious Armenians, as well as for the warm welcome.

The guests told about the Diaspora in Lebanon, stating the 27 functioning schools, Armenian studies institutions, Haykazyan University, and numerous periodic editions. They valued the activities of charity unions, organizations of women and the youth, the cooperation of the Armenian community with national political parties, stating the necessity to acquire the quota of having five Armenian chairmen in the Parliament and one Minister.

The meeting continued in the form of questions and answers, during which Armenians living in Tbilisi received information about the situation in the areas inhabited by Armenians – Anjar, Aleppo,Kessab. They also learnt about the compulsive outflow of Armenians in Syria, about Iraq war, as well as about the new Islamists.

Both parties were pleased with the warm and interesting meeting.

Compatriots from Beyrut visited the Davtyans house and enjoyed the charm of puppets created by the late master Garry Davtyan. They were warmly welcomed by the landlady Zhanna Davtyan.
