Members of the Armenian diocese of Georgia participated in the “Summer Together” project PDF Print E-mail

From May 31 to June 10th 2014, a group of young members from the Armenian diocese of Georgia participated in the “Summer Together” exchange program funded by the European Union. The program, which took place at the Armenian resort of Jermuk was attended by over 30 young Armenians from France, Estonia, Georgia and Armenia.

Members of “Hayartun” cultural and educational center RevikKarapetyan, Lana Adamyan, Milena Galustova, EleneJariashvili, Diana Paronyan, Diana Hovhannisyan and Marina Sargsyan wererepresenting the Armenian community of Georgia.

The main goal of the program was to provide the participants with skills for communication and problem solving while working creatively in teams, through non-formal education. The program included seminars, workshops, discussions, and intercultural evenings, group work, developing leadership and independent thinking, skills that the young participants could bring back and apply in their counties and communities. A technical skill such as summer champ building was also part of the program. English was the main working language of the program.

The representatives of Georgia properly presented their country and the center “Hayartun”. The wide range of activities organized by cultural-educational “Hayartun” surprised members of the other communities. During the intercultural night, young participants from Georgia presented the hospitality and kindness of the Georgian people. Georgian traditional dances, singing, history and traditional garb were also presented.

Perhaps one of the most memorable parts of the program was the visit to the 10th century Tatev monastery in the south of Armenia and accessing it through one of world’s longest ropeway “Wings of Tatev”. Monastery’s priest Mikael Gevorgyan presented the history of the church as well as conducted a special mass for the visitors.

The project participants also had an opportunity to meet with the young people of Yeghegnadzor city, where they were able to organize several events based on the experience gained during the “Summer Together” program.
