Sunday school students received certificate of basic Armenian knowledge and blessings from Georgia’s Armenian diocese head PDF Print E-mail

On June 13th 2014, at St. Echmiatsin Armenian church of Tbilisi, the head of the Armenian Diocese of Georgia – bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, together with the other spiritual leaders conducted an evening mass, which was attended by the 2013-2014 academic year graduates of “St. Gregory of Narek” Saturday and “St. Yeghia the Prophet” Sunday schools. The graduating students’ parents and the church going community were addressed by the head of the Diocese.

Bishop Mirzakhanyan spoke about the long history of hardships through which the Armenian nation went through, but was able to preserve its belief and statehood, the senior spiritual leader called for continued dedication to the church and knowledge of language. The head of the diocese spoke about the high value of the Armenian language school tradition, which was initiated by archbishop GevorgSeradanyan 20 years ago. Mirzakhanyan praised the work of the “St. Gregory of Narek” Saturday and “St. Yeghia the Prophet” Sunday schools, which create a possibility for over 200 Armenians deprived of speaking Armenian to study the language under the supervision of teachers Tamara Gaboyan and Roza Zohrabyan.

Under the leadership of spiritual adviser of “Hayartun” center - deacon Gevorg Antonyan, the students have the opportunity to learn how to write and read in Armenian. Bishop Mirzakhanyan also encouraged the graduating class to continue visiting center “Hayartun” and the church, as well as praised Yevgenia Markosyan’s work, under who’s direct leadership the intermediate and final exams were conducted at Tbilisi as well as Batumi and Kobuleti Sunday and Saturday Armenian schools.

At the end of the event, with the blessings of bishop Mirzakhanyan 50 graduating students received certificates of completion for the two years of Armenian language education
