There are two one-day schools at the Hayartun Center of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, where people starting from 10 years of age can learn Armenian language, history and learn more about the Armenian Church. This is a two-year learning course. Many Armenians irrespective of age who have strayed far from their roots gain here an opportunity to study mother tongue.

Almost 200 students have attended St. Grigor Narekatsi Suturday school and St. Yeghia Sunday school this academic year. The end-of-year examination and final exams check students’ knowledge according to course syllabus.

The end-of-year examinations were conducted at one-day schools of Armenian Language on May 24-25, 2014. Almost 70 students of the first grade participated in the exams. According to examination board comprised of Eugenia Markosyan, responsible for the Department of Education at the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, Priest Samvel Torosyan, a spiritual shepherd of Surb Etchmiadzin Church in Tbilisi, Deacon Gevorg Antonyan, a spiritual supervisor at the Hayartun Center and teachers of Armenian Roza Zohrabyan and Tamara Gaboyan, the students of two schools demonstrated a good understanding of a field of study, because they have learned the alphabet and have a rudimentary knowledge of Armenian. It became apparent that more than 60 Armenians from two schools have successfully passed the exam.

On May 31 and June 1 the students of the second grade of the aforementioned schools have passed the certification exam. Citizens of different age who have strayed far from their roots, but are willing to learn the language of their ancestors, spoke Armenian fluently and answered the questions related to Armenian language, history and the Armenian Church, quoted from the Armenian literature. Fortunately, 45 Armenians have successfully completed the course in the 2013-2014 academic year. The solemn certification ceremony will be held in Surb Etchmiadzin Church were the graduates will also receive blessing from His Eminence Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, Head of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia.
