The first session of Georgian regional commission of the council coordinating the events devoted to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide was held PDF Print E-mail

On April 29, 2014 the “Hayartun” Center at the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, under the leadership of the Primate of the Diocese, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, hosted the first session of Georgian regional commission of the council coordinating the events devoted to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. Counselor of RA Embassy to Georgia Levon Torgomyan attended the meeting; he conveyed greetings and best wishes from the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia to Georgia Hovhannes Manoukian. Representatives from Tbilisi, all the regions of Samtskhe-Javakheti, Tsalka and Batumi participated in the session.

After a special prayer for the repose of souls of the Armenian Genocide victims the Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia spoke about the activities of the regional commission in particular, stressing the allocation of duties and planning of forthcoming activities.

The Head of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan was unanimously elected chairman coordinating the regional commission, and Slava Mezhdoyan the Head of Hay Dat European Committee Office in Tbilisi was elected secretary. The members of the commission were appointed. It was suggested to draw up programs and send them to the secretariat, in order to discuss them in the next meeting.

His Grace on behalf of diocesan authorities presented a ten point work plan. The attendees made a suggestion to convene meetings once a month and bring them outdoors in the Armenian-inhabited regions of Georgia.

The commission decided to hold the next session on May 24, in order that the coordinating chairman could present a work plan of Georgian commission on May 26-27 in the session held by the RA Minister of Diaspora, which will discuss events devoted to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
