The series of events dedicated to the victims of the Armenian Genocide launched in the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia PDF Print E-mail

On April 12, the Calouste Gulbenkian Hall of the “Hayartun” Center at the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia hosted exhibition entitled “Genocide Victims Memorial”, dedicated to the 99thAnniversary ofthe Armenian Genocide. It was organized by the Union of Armenian Artists of Georgia, under the auspices of the “Hayartun” Center at the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia. Ryslan Pogosyan, a member of the Parliament of Georgia attended the opening ceremony.

Works of artists from Tbilisi, Samtskhe-Javakheti and Georgian painters, who assisted in exhibition organization, were presented. Levon Chidilyan, Head of the Cultural Department at the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia and coordinator of the “Hayartun” Center, opened the exhibition. He emphasized that for two years straight the exhibition on the Armenian Genocide opened the series of events in the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia dedicated to the victims of the Armenian Genocide. Meruzhan Shahumyan, Chairman of the Union of Armenian Painters of Georgia, informed that presented 60 canvases of 25 painters helped to express their anger against indifference of the world, demanding justice, ancestors’ suffering and terrible martyrdom compensation.  

Yenok Tadevosyan, Chairman of the Union of Armenian Intellectuals of Georgia, reminded the audience of protest action, which was organized a few days ago by Tbilisi Armenians in front of the United Nations Office in Georgia and Turkish Embassy in Tbilisi to support the Kessab Armenians. The reporter informed about the location and history of Armenian-inhabited Kessab and surrounding area that for the third time were subjected to genocide and eviction.

At the end the Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan blessed all participants; he highly appreciated the event and participation of Georgian artists. His Grace named the similar events memorial to innocent Armenian victims. The Head of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia invoking the memory of artists urged to devote themselves to making the future beautiful for Armenians and Armenia, so that no enemy could threaten the Armenian artists with eviction from his home and native land.

The exhibition will run until the 30th of April.
