On November 18 “Purpik” Puppet Theatre, functioning at the Vicariate of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Samtskhe-Javakheti, gave performance at school of Kulikam village in Akhalkalaki region. The students of Armenian public school named after Artur Garibyan and children of the village had the opportunity to see high-level performance skills of the actors from “Purpik” Theatre.

“Purpik” Puppet Theatre gave free performance entitled “The Greedy Woodcutter” at Kulikam village school, supported and initiated by the Vicariate of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Samtskhe-Javakheti. Sincere laughter, joy, thunderous applause and the direct participation of children in the process accompanied the performance.

Also to be noted is that the theatre has operated in Javakheti since 2004, at the initiative of Liana Khloyan and Vicar-General of Javakhk Supreme Archimandrite Babken Salbiyan. Back in 2001, having arrived in Akhalkalaki and seeing the plight of the local Armenians, theater director decided to move to Javakheti and commit herself to puppet theater creation, pursuing the goal through performances to help the preaching work of the Armenian Apostolic Church, to make people closer to the Christian faith and Mother Church.

Students of Armenian schools in Akhalkalaki, who study today at different Armenian universities, are the actors of “Purpik” Puppet Theatre. The repertoire includes four performances: “Mher’s House”, “Pochat Aghves” (Tailed Fox), “The Greedy Woodcutter” and “Nativity”. “Purpik” Children and Youth Puppet Theatre had a tour in Tbilisi and Armenian villages of Javakhk.
