Dhol Classes Has Started at the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia PDF Print E-mail

On October 15, at the “Hayartun” Center of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia a solemn opening ceremony of dhol classes took place. Continuing activities for the good of the nation, with the support of RA Ministry of Diaspora and the “Hayartun” Center at the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, the Armenian guys of Tbilisi 7-15 years of age will learn to play the Armenian national instrument –dhol.

The Armenian guys, wishing to study, with their parents and the people, interested in national instruments, attended the presentation.

The coordinator of the “Hayartun” Center Levon Chidilyan opened the presentation and presented Robert Kashavanidze, a famous dhol player, who for many years has accompanied the performance of many folk ensembles and individual performers. The coordinator of the center underlined the support and patronage of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia and RA Ministry of Diaspora in the organization of the classes and equipment with musical instruments dhols.

The Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanian welcomed the dhol classes opening, he recalled dedicated distributor of folk song and music, master performer on folk music instruments – deceased Mukuch Ghazarian, thanks to his efforts “Sayat-Nova” ensemble of folk songs and dances was created and existed in Tbilisi, the dhol player of which was the present teacher. His Grace highly appreciated patriotic approach aimed at mastering the national instruments and the transfer of knowledge to a new generation, and blessed the class.

Artistic director of the “Hayartun” Center Pavel Oganezov stressed the importance to master the national instrument –dhol. According to the artistic director, students enrolled in this course would receive basic music knowledge, would be trained in solfeggio and harmony in particular.

Today 12 students are enrolled in class. Classes are held three times a week. It should be added that there is also the class of duduk at the “Hayartun” Center of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia.
