A Folk Music Festival Again Took Place in Tbilisi PDF Print E-mail

On September 25, at Tbilisi Art Hall a concert with the participation of talented singers and musicians - the winners and participants of the RA Shant TV projects “National Singer” and “The New Select for Duduk” took place. The charity concert, which was also a folk music festival, was dedicated to Sayat-Nova's 300th anniversary. The aim of the concert was to spread the Armenian folk songs and music in the Armenian-populated areas outside of Armenia. After charity concerts in Akhalkalaki, Ninotsminda and Tsalka the next stop was Tbilisi. Here the concert took place under the auspices of the RA Ministry of Diaspora, with the support of the Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, the “Hayartun” center and the member of the Board of Trustees, benefactor Sos Sahakian. Taron Shagoyan, Caucasian Regional Department Head at the RA Ministry of Diaspora Affairs, Counselor of the RA Embassy to Georgia Levon Torgomian, representatives of Tbilisi Armenian community attended the concert.

The immortal works by Sayat-Nova, gusan and folk songs and music were performed live on duduk, dhol, zurna and other national instruments in a crowded hall. The concert was accompanied by thunderous applause and soon captured the audience.

At the end of the concert the representative of the RA Ministry of Diaspora Taron Shagoyan, the coordinator of the “Hayartun” Center at the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, Levon Chidilian, the members of Tbilisi “Vank” dance ensemble and choreographer Liana Kashavanidze appeared on the stage. Responsible for the culture department of the Diocese and the coordinator of the center expressed his gratitude to the RA Ministry of Diaspora, the Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, the “Hayartun” Center staff members, and the benefactor Sos Sahakian for their support in the concert organization. Choreographer Liana Kashavanidze highly appreciated the RA Ministry of Diaspora initiative to spread the Armenian song outside the country; she presented Mr. Taron Shagoyan the painting of the Armenian Surb Gevorg Church in Tbilisi and handed over souvenirs to all the participants of the concert.

The charity concert ended with the traditional Armenian round dance.
