The United Nations declared 30 July as official International Friendship Day. It was worthily celebrated in the multinational capital of Georgia. According to the decision of Tbilisi City Hall, from the 30^th of July to the 5^th of August different events had been organized, which reflected the image of the city that is really imbued with the spirit of friendship and co-existence of different nationalities.

The events were diverse, while the participants were inhabitants of this city of different nationalities. At the initiative of Tbilisi City Hall and the Union of Writers of Georgia, an event that took place at newly opened library in Vake Park launched the marathon, dedicated to the International Friendship Day. Young people from the capital city Lika Margaryan, Vazgen Sumbatyan, Aram Harutyunyan, Anna Mikaelyan and others performed songs and dances, recited poems.

The Armenian community, respectively, also took part in the event, held on the 1^st of August in the National Library. Here at the exhibition the artist Artem Alabulyants presented his works, dance ensemble "Jeyran" at the "Hayartun" Cultural Center of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia (choreographer - Svetlana Yeritsyan) and declamation - Lisa Torosian appeared with the national dance and poem recitation, and the young solo performer Hovhannes Shakhnazaryan presented the Armenian community.

Evening of friendship became the final melody of the marathon, which, at the initiative of Deputy Chairman of the Council of Women of Georgia Ketevan Gabuashvili (Chairman – Mzekala Shanidze) and with the support of Tbilisi City Hall, took place on the 5^th of August at the newly opened library in Varketili.

The event brought together 12 existing community-based organizations in Tbilisi. Dance ensemble “Vanq” and Gary Davtyan Puppet and Culture House represented the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia.

Vice-Mayor of Tbilisi Sevdia Ugrekhelidze, Head of the Department of Education and Culture of Tbilisi City Hall Shota Maglakelidze, Chairman of the Center of Cultural Events of Tbilisi City Hall Neka Sepiskveradze, leaders of community-based organizations, representatives of multinational Tbilisi attended the evening of friendship. The well-known singer Irma Sokhadze was the host of the event.

Different communities had organized national stands. The Armenian community in Georgia had exposed three paintings of Gayane Khachaturyan and samples of folk musical instruments. Armenian gata, baklava and halva had also found their place among the traditional sweets of other nations. Guests and participants expressed particular interest in the Armenian corner.

As the oldest community of Tbilisi symbolizing true friendship, which stood at the beginnings of a multi-ethnic city construction, Armenian community appeared after the Georgian songs and dances.

Chairman of the Union of Armenian Women in Georgia “Shushanik” Susanna Khachaturyan presented the Armenian community in Tbilisi and the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, she recalled Sayat-Nova, Hovhannes Tumanyan, Sergo Parajanov and Gayane Khachaturyan, the names of the individuals who had dedicated themselves to friendship; she underlined the “Hayartun” Center at the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, where different ensembles develop folk songs and dances, due to which the Armenians of Tbilisi can proudly present their folk culture and art.

After that the kind puppet “Hago” from Gary Davtyan Puppet and Culture House, with the help of the headmistress Jhana Davtyan, charmed the audience with the poem by Gevorg Emin “Amazing Armenian”, which was wonderfully recited by Levon Chidilyan. And the Armenian wedding ceremony with all the rituals, joyful songs and dances appeared on the stage, which was demonstrated by boys and girls from dance ensemble "Vanq", under the direction of choreographer Liana Kashavanidze.

Ukrainian, Polish, the peoples of the Baltic countries, Russian, Yezidi, Gypsy, Ossetian, Abkhazian songs and dances had been featured in national performances. The joint performance of Revaz Lagidze Song about Tbilisi (“Tbiliso”) concluded the event.
