The Second Pan-Armenian Forum “Ahead of the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide” Was Held PDF Print E-mail

On the 5-6th July, at the sessions hall of the RA National Academy of Sciences, the second Pan-Armenian Forum of Lawyers, organized by RA Ministry of Diaspora and the Pan-Armenian Council of Lawyers, which was attended by about 100 well-known experts from Armenia, Diaspora and Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, took place. Adviser to the Head of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, the Head of the Legal Department of the Diocese, Levon Isakhanyan also took part in the conference.

RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobian presented at the forum RA President Serzh Sargsyan’s appeal.

Welcoming the participants of the forum, RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan stressed: "Almost 100 years have passed since the Armenian Genocide, which has left its wounds and consequences, despite the genocide committed by Turkey, the Armenian nation exists today, has two states and strong Diaspora, so our struggle aimed at restoration of historical justice is yet to come. " Among the speakers were President of the Constitutional Court Gagik Harutyunyan; RA Justice Minister Hrayr Tovmasyan; the member of the European Court of Human Rights Alvina Gyulumyan; Human Rights Defender Karen Andreasyan; NKR Justice Minister Ararat Danielyan.

During the two-day work the speakers discussed the expediency of raising on the international arena legal solution of the Armenian Genocide, the issues on filing individual and collective lawsuits to courts for restitution of the properties of the inheritors of Armenian Genocide victims, as well as other issues related to legal succession and claims. The lawyers also referred to the legal consequences of Sevres and Kars international treaties, the problems associated with the use of retroactivity under the Geneva Convention of Human Rights.

Within the framework of the conference at the National Gallery of Armenia the presentation of the book entitled New Millennium Constitutionalism; Paradigms of Reality and Changes” was held. The participants of the forum visited Tsitsernakaberd - a memorial dedicated to the victims of the Armenian Genocide.

Summing up the forum, President of the RA Constitutional Court Gagik Harutyunyan announced the creation of a special committee to make the package of legal documents on key issues related to the Armenian Genocide complete.

The participants of the forum adopted a declaration.
