Young Armenians of Georgia on Cognitive Visit to David Gareja Monastery Complex PDF Print E-mail

1-1The activities of the Youth Department of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia include introductory tours to historical, cultural and religious monuments in Georgia. In order to fulfill this objective, on November 23, 2017, at the initiative of the Youth Department of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, a group of young Armenians traveled to located in Kakheti David Gareja monastery complex.1

Early in the morning, young Armenians of Georgia started their journey from the St. Etchmiadzin Church in Avlabari neighborhood. Rev. Father Virap Ghazaryan, Pastor of the St.Etchmiadzin Church welcomed more than 40 young Armenians. Following the joint prayer, Father Virap transmitted paternal love and good wishes of the Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen 2Mirzakhanyan to the attendees, wishing them to have a safe journey.

A group of young Armenians led by the Department Director Valeri Badalyan, Deacon Gevorg Antonyan, accompanied by Nina Seropova, Youth Programs Coordinator; operator and photographer Gevorg Poghosov; traveled to the monastery complex.3

In attendance were volunteer training courses participants (the 1st and 2nd grades), which are organized by the Youth Department of the 4Armenian Diocese in Georgia, activists of the St. Gregory of Narek Educational, Cultural and Youth Center in Rustavi, as well as young Armenians of Tbilisi.

Their cognitive visit was a pilgrimage to David-Gareja monastery complex dating back to the sixth century. Despite the steep slopes and difficult road, the young Armenians5 climbed the ascent, watched the caves and monasteries of Gareja with interest, enjoying the scenic view of ancient churches and monasteries.

6Following the Lord’s Prayer at the last sanctuary, the group of youth people returned to Tbilisi with more energy and with a good mood.

The introductory tours to historical, cultural and religious monuments in Georgia will be held on regular basis and will encompass different regions of Georgia.
