Armenian Students Visit “House of Hovhannes Tumanyan” Center PDF Print E-mail

A1On October 31, 2017, more than 50 Armenian students studying at different higher education institutions of Tbilisi, at the initiative of the Youth Department of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, led by the Youth Department Director, Valeri Badalian, and operator Gevorg Poghosov, visited the “House of Hovhannes Tumanyan” 1Center for Science and Culture. The event was organized by Harutyun Malkhasyan and Stepan Evajyan, the students of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University.

The Center’s director Gisane Hovsepyan welcomed the group of youth. She presented the history of the house of Hovhannes 2Tumanyan, touched upon the path taken to return the home to the Armenian community of Georgia, spoke about the support provided by charitable companies and benefactors to return the home of the Great Tumanyan to the Armenian community, namely the Armenian Diocese in Georgia.

Afterwards, a documentary was screened. The return of the home to the community, the repair and improvement works were presented in the film. It featured the history of the Tumanyan’s house before the renovation and at present times.

Filled with the breath of the Great Tumanyan, the youth with enthusiasm remembered the lines from the poems of the greatest national poet. The student of Ivane 3Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Sirak Petrosyan noted that Tumanyan is usually regarded in Armenian circles as "All-4Armenian poet", and how he earned this title during the meeting with the Catholicos of all Armenians. In his closing remarks, he recited Hovhannes Tumanyan’s poem “Armenian Grief”.

The Center’s director presented the student with the book “Tumanyan’s Children: “Epistolary Works” by Artavazd Tumanyan”, published by the Hovhannes Tumanyan Museum in Yerevan.

The group of youth toured the House of Hovhannes Tumanyan, were inspired with the spirit creativity that prevailed in the library, other halls and balcony.

The meeting was held in a warm atmosphere characteristic of the spirit of Tumanyan’s poetry.
