Guests from USA, Hamshen and Armenia Arrive in Akhaltsikhe |

On July 2, Armenians from Hamshen, the Republic of Armenia and the United States of America arrived in Akhaltsikhe where they participated in several events. Near the Bavra border checkpoint, General Arshaluys Paytyan and Member of Glendale City Council Zareh Sinanyan were greeted by several representatives of Akhaltsikhe and Akhalkalaki. On the road, at the invitation of Samvel Petrosyan, the guests visited Varevan village to participate in the event dedicated to the day commemorating Petros Abajan, who died in the battle for the liberation of Artsakh. The guests traveled from Akhalkalaki to the Gregory the Illuminator Church in Akhaltsikhe where they were greeted with salt and bread by Head of the Media Analysis Center of Samtskhe-Javakheti Eduard Ayvazyan; spiritual superintendent of Akhaltsikhe, Rev. Father Hakob Sahakyan and Georgian MP Giorgi Kopadze. At the St. Gregory the Illuminator Church, spiritual superintendent of Akhaltsikhe, Rev. Father Hakob Sahakyan granted certificates to Member of Glendale City Council Zareh Sinanyan and representative of the Armenian community of Washington DC, Director of Policy Forum Armenia Center Davit Grigoryan, after which the guests and the Armenians of Akhaltsikhe visited the St. Nshan Church where they were introduced to the history of the Church and its current status. Later, the delegation climbed to the Armenian Genocide Memorial where Zareh Sinanyan and Deputy Giorgi Kopadze laid a wreath in memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide. Afterwards, the guests visited the Armenian cemetery in Akhaltsikhe where they laid wreaths near the crypt of His Grace Karapet Bagratuni. Later, the guests climbed to the monument commemorating the heroes of the self-defense of Akhaltsikhe in 1918. At the monument, they laid wreaths and commemorated the heroes. At the end, the delegation visited the monument to the April 9 victims at the central park in Akhaltsikhe where the delegates also laid a wreath in memory of the innocent Georgian victims. The event ended with a dinner dance at the Rabati Citadel. On July 3, in the morning, Georgian MP Giorgi Kopadze and Mayor of Akhaltsikhe Vladimir Zedginidze received Member of Glendale City Council Zareh Sinanyan, General Arshaluys Paytyan and the guests from Hamshen. During the meeting, the attendees attached importance to the development of the Armenian-Georgian, Armenian-American and Georgian-American relations. Zareh Sinanyan granted certificates to representatives of local authorities, including the Armenians working at the local self-government bodies, the Pastor of Akhaltsikhe Rev. Father Hacob Sahakyan and Head of the Media Analysis Center of Samtskhe-Javakheti Eduard Ayvazyan. The Mayor of Akhaltsikhe and the Georgian MP gave the guests mementos. On the same day the guests met with the teachers of the local Hovhannes Tumanyan High School, in attendance were the teachers of #1 Georgian school. The guests at the Akhaltsikhe Center for Civic Engagement (USAID) met with the members of the local Armenian community, issues related to local Armenians were discussed during the meeting. At the conclusion of the meeting Head of the Media Analysis Center of Samtskhe-Javakheti Eduard Ayvazyan granted certificates to Georgian MP Giorgi Kopadze and former MP Gocha Gvaramadze, for their contribution in the development of the Armenian-Georgian relations. Zareh Sinanyan granted a certificate of Glendale City Council to Gocha Gvaramadze. The guests visited a school in the Small Pamach village, where they met with the teachers. |
