Palm Sunday Celebrated in the Armenian Diocese in Georgia |

On April 9, 2017, Christians around the world partook in celebrations of Palm Sunday, which commemorates the triumphant entry of our Lord Jesus Christ into Jerusalem. On the occasion of the Feast, a Divine Liturgy was offered in all the functioning churches of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Holy Church in Georgia. From the early morning the Cathedral of St. George and the Saint Etchmiadzin Church in Tbilisi and their courtyards were crowded. The faithful in a festive mood came to celebrate the Triumphant Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. Following morning services, the Divine Liturgy was offered in the crowded Churches. The celebrant in the Cathedral of St. George was Right Rev. Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia. The Primate offered a homily during the Holy Mass and spoke about the sacrament of Palm Sunday. The celebrant referred to several episodes of the last earthly days of Christ, he exhorted the faithful to preserve the festive mood of Palm Sunday in everyday life, to walk through life with love, faith and kindness, to banish loneliness and to live a life in Christ, as Our Savior is in our souls everywhere, with his love and power. His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan congratulated the whole Christian world on the Feast of Palm Sunday. The Catholicos of All Armenians His Holiness Karekin II announced Palm Sunday the Day of Blessing the Children. Following the Divine Liturgy, the clergy conducted the Blessing of the Children Service. The continual flow of believers to the Armenian Church did not stop during the day. Rev. Fathers were blessing the branches and distributing them to the parish as a symbol of a special solemnity. On the occasion of the feast, under the presidency of Very Rev. Fr. Babken Salbiyan, the Prelate of Samtskhe-Javakheti and Tsalka's General Prelacy of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, a Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the Surb Khach(Holy Cross) Church in Akhaltsikhe, the Blessing of the Children took place and balloons were distributed to the children. The Surb Prkich (Saint Savior) Church in Batumi was crowded. In attendance were high-ranking officials, community representatives, and many faithful. Following the Divine Liturgy, Rev. Father Ararat Gumbalyan blessed the students of the Alexander Mantashyants Center and the children living in Batumi. On the occasion of the Feast, the Divine Liturgy and the Blessing of Children were held in the Saint Gregory the Illuminator Church in Akhaltsikhe and the Saint Sargis Church in Ninotsminda. The Pastors of the Diocese visited the Armenian-inhabited villages in Akhalkalaki, Ninotsminda, Tsalka, Marneuli, Bolnisi and Tetritskaro regions, where they offered the blessing service for the four corners of the world (Andastan), blessed the willow branches, blessed the children and schoolchildren. Following the Evening Service in the churches, the liturgical ceremony “The Opening of the Door” took place. |
