On March 24, 2017, the Parliament of Georgia hosted the Conference dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of restoration of Autocephaly of the Orthodox Church of Georgia. The conference was attended by state officials, the representatives of legislative and executive authorities, diplomatic corps, Synod members and representatives of various religious confessions. The Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan was invited to attend the Conference. The Chairman of Parliament, Mr. Irakli Kobakhidze, the President of Georgia, Mr. Giorgi Margvelashvili, the Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili delivered the speeches, stressing the important role of the Georgian Orthodox Church in the restoration of the independence of Georgia, and congratulated the Georgian Orthodox Church on the occasion of 100th Anniversary of restoration of Autocephaly. Later, the participants had the opportunity to visit the exhibition organized by the National Library of Parliament, dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of restoration of Autocephaly of the Orthodox Church of Georgia. At the conclusion of the event, the Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia approached Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, and on behalf of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, congratulated the Georgian Church on the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of the restoration of Autocephaly and wished His Holiness a long and healthy life to shepherd the Georgian nation. |
