On February 24, 2017, the Calouste Gulbenkian hall of the Hayartun Center at the Armenian Diocese in Georgia hosted the opening of the personal exhibition of the Honored Artist of the Georgian SSR, a member of Union of Artists of the USSR, Lev Bayakhchev. The exhibition was organized by the Union of Armenian Painters of Georgia and the Hayartun Center.

Lev Bayakhchev is a prominent representative of the second half of XX century's Georgian art.

The exhibition presented 60 graphics and paintings of the artist made at different times. Exhibited items, lent to the exhibition by the artist’s family, for the first time were presented to the public.

Bayakchev’s family members, Tbilisi art lovers of different nationalities, the appreciators of Bayakchev’s art and experts attended the opening of the exhibition.

Head of the Cultural Department in the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, Levon Chidilyan gave opening remarks. He expressed his gratitude to Bayakchev’s family for the assistance provided.

President of the Union of Armenian Painters of Georgia, curator of the exhibition, Irena Ohanjanova reflected on the artist’s life and creativity, highlighted his participation in many exhibitions, as well as solo exhibitions. The speaker noted that the works of the honored artist are kept in many museums, art galleries and private collections in Georgia and abroad.

Art critic Marina Memdzariashvili, icon painter Michael Mchedlishvili, artist Roman Tsukhishvili spoke about the profoundly gifted artist, highlighting different genres and rich palette of his works, his artistic and professional skills. Artem Kirakozov and Igor Nagorny shared their memories of a good friend and comrade.

Mrs. Elena Bayakhcheva, the widow of the artist, expressed her deep gratitude to the attendees. She announced preparations underway for a solo exhibition dedicated to the artist’s 90th birthday anniversary.

Solo exhibition of Lev Bayakhchev in the Hayartun Center of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia will be open through March 19, 2017.
