On December 18, 2016, the Galouste Gyulbenkyan Hall of the Hayartun Center at the Armenian Diocese in Georgia hosted the screening of the Khnus Foundation’s documentary film “Homecoming”.

The crowded hall was the vivid evidence of importance of a tradition of screening historical feature films in the Hayartun Center. The Head of the Hayartun Center at the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, Levon Chidilyan, welcomed Samvel Mheryan, director, screenwriter and film producer of the Khnus Cultural Foundation, who had arrived to Tbilisi specially to introduce the film to the audience.

The film director, who is also a writer of literary works, conveyed his greetings to the Armenian community of Tbilisi and recited some poems from the series of his spiritual poems.

Referring to the “Homecoming” film, Samvel Mheryan described it as a pilgrimage, still cherishing the hope of returning home.

The attendees (mostly the descendants of those, who survived the Armenian Genocide, making their way from Mush, Van, Kars, and other Armenian historical provinces to Georgia) were deeply touched by the movie. The “Homecoming” film helped them to explore the provinces of Western Armenia more.

At the conclusion of the event, the Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, highly estimated the historical feature films aimed to carry patriotic propaganda and the spiritual poems, authored by the film director.

Appreciating the idea of screening the “Homecoming” film, imbued with nostalgia and hope, in Tbilisi, the Diocesan Primate urged the people present to live in reality and, instead of leaving Armenia and Artsakh, to dedicate oneself to building a prosperous and vibrant country.

At the end of the presentation, the film director and screenwriter entertained questions from the audience on the challenges of shooting a movie, the Islamized Armenians returning to their Christian roots, national and spiritual revival and the Armenian communities.

The film director Samvel Mheryan has written "Lonely Falcon" historical novel on Khnus province in the Western Armenia, "The True Light" and “Ayb Ke”, the series of spiritual poems, for which he received the blessings and appreciation from His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians. Samvel Mheryan is also the director of "Garden of Eden" documentary film.
