On October 8, 2016, the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church celebrated the Feast of the Holy Translators. It is one of the most favorite and beloved feasts for the Armenian people.

On this occasion under the presidency of His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, the Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, the Divine Liturgy was conducted in Tbilisi’s St. Etchmiadzin Church.

The Divine Liturgy was attended by teachers, people occupied with translating, led by poet and translator Givi Shakhnazari.

The Counselors at the RA Embassy in Georgia, Karen Melikyan attended the Divine Liturgy.

During the Divine Liturgy, the celebrant, Very Rev. Father Khoren Hovhannisyan, assistant to the Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, preached on the mystery of the day. Father Khoren referred to the period when the Armenian Alphabet was invented and the creation of the Armenian alphabet named “a turning point in Armenian history”. Emphasizing the contribution of the Diocese made to the national and religious education of the Armenians in Georgia, Father Khoren noted that the Church, language and culture are the guarantees of national identity preservation. The celebrant addressed his remarks to the people in attendance, and urged the faithful to spread the Armenian alphabet, created by the Holy Translators, to pass on our precious language to future generations.

Following the Divine Liturgy, the clergy of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia visited the Khojivank pantheon of Armenian writers and public figures, where they conducted a service for the repose of the souls of the Armenian Greats.

Rev. Father Tatev Marukyan, Pastor of Akhalkalaki and nearby villages of Samtskhe-Javakheti General Prelacy of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, celebrated the Divine Liturgy on the occasion of Holy Translators’ day in the Surb Khach (Holy Cross) Church in Akhalkalaki.
