St.Gevorg 

On September 24, 2016, the Commemoration of St. Gevorg the Captain was solemnly celebrated in the churches of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia.

Holiday spirit prevailed at the Saint George Cathedral in Tbilisi, which was built in honor of the saint in the 13th century. Because of their special reverence for St. George, the faithful came to attend the church service on this occasion. The Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan presided over the Divine Liturgy.

The celebrant was Rev. Fr. Samvel Torosyan, Pastor of the Cathedral of Saint George. During the service, in his sermon, Father Samvel spoke on the message of the feast - St. Gevorg the Captain’s dedication to the Christian faith and martyrdom, highlighting the special reverence and respect of the Armenian faithful in Tbilisi for the Saint, where for centuries the churches were constructed in honor of the saint and the Cathedral of Saint George was one of them.

Following the Divine Liturgy, a treat was organized on the occasion of the feast, at the initiative of the members of Church-loving Women’s Association of the Cathedral of Saint George. The Diocesan Primate blessed Matagh (Thanksgiving Animal Sacrifice) offered by the pilgrims, which lately was distributed to the people present.

The feast was solemnly celebrated in the St. Gevorg Church in Arakova village of Akhalkalaki district. With the participation of Very Rev. Fr. Babken Salbiyan, the Prelate of Samtskhe-Javakheti and Tsalka's General Prelacy of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated. The celebrant was Rev. Father Tadeos Ter-Mkrtchyan, the local Pastor.

Following the Divine Liturgy, Very Rev. Father Babken Salbiyan congratulated the faithful of the occasion of the feast and handed out certificates to the students of the Khrimyan Hayrik Kindergarten in the village of Arakova.
