Repose of Souls Service in Memory of Killed Soldiers PDF Print E-mail

On April 10, 2016, in the Cathedral of Saint George in Tbilisi, the Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, presided over a service for the repose of the souls of soldiers, who died during the clashes along the line of contact in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone. Diplomats from the RA Embassy in Georgia, honorary members of Armenian community, intellectuals, and many parishioners attended the service.

Following the Sunday Divine Liturgy, the Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia addressed his remarks to the people in attendance, referring to events developing on the line of contact between Azerbaijani and Armenian armies in recent days. The Primate welcomed the ceasefire announced between two sides, extending glory to God, that peace prevails in Artsakh today and the firing has ceased. The Bishop highlighted the Georgian government's approach towards the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, highly appreciated the peaceable position of the governing bodies of the country. The Diocesan Primate called upon the parish to remain faithful to the country’s authorities and not give in to provocations, but to live together in peace and harmony with Georgians and Azerbaijanis living in Georgia, and build a better future of the country together.

Referring to the ceasefire, the Primate urged the faithful to always support the Motherland and Artsakh.

The Prayer of Thanks for peace followed.

At the end, a service for the repose of the souls of soldiers, who gave their life for the country's independence and the right of the people to self-determination, was offered.

Memorial services were held in other churches of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia.
