UWC Dilijan College Students in Tbilisi PDF Print E-mail

On 25-27 February, 2016, UWC Dilijan College students group visited Tbilisi. Students from many countries were interested in visiting Tbilisi, a multinational and multi-confessional city of rich cultural history. In two days they explored Old Tbilisi, Abanotubani (sulphur bathhouses area), where side-by-side the temples of different denominations are located, visited the Georgian National Museum, the Museum of Ethnography, Mtskheta, Jvari Monastery, the Tbilisi Pantheon of the Armenian Writers and Public Figures “Khojivank”, lit candles in the Armenian St. Gevorg Cathedral Church.

The Head of Legal Affairs and Cooperation Department, Michael Avakian, and Nina Seropova, Youth Programs Coordinator, accompanied the guests throughout the tour.

The young people visited the Hayartun Cultural, Educational and Youth Center at the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, where they met with the representatives of the State Agency for Religious Issues.

Very Rev. Father Khoren Hovhannisyan, Pastor of Kvemo Kartli region at the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, welcomed the UWC Dilijan College students in Tbilisi and spoke about the activities of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Holy Church in Georgia.

The students listened carefully to the head of the State Agency for Religious Issues, Mr. Zaza Vashakmadze, who delivered a lecture entitled “Religious Diversity in Georgia”.

Nina Seropova, Youth Programs Coordinator, told the students from different ethnic backgrounds about the Hayartun Center, the work of the Youth Department and outlined the scope of future activities.

The meeting was held in a question-and-answer format.

P.S. In 2014, UWC Dilijan College – an international boarding school opened its doors to the first students. The school is the joint project of the philanthropists Ruben Vardanyan and Veronika Zonabend and their partners – individuals and organizations. It is the first UWC College in the post-Soviet space, which accepted students from 63 countries, including Europe, the US and Latin America. UWC Dilijan College is a full member of the educational network United World Colleges and is approved as an International Baccalaureate World School (IB Diploma).
