Presentation of “Shushanik, the Queen of Kartli” Book-Album PDF Print E-mail

On January 22, 2016, Elene Akhvlediani Children's Gallery of Georgia hosted a presentation of “Shushanik, the Queen of Kartli” book-album. The event was attended by art critics, the teachers of schools for aesthetic upbringing, students, parents and guests.

Head of Elene Akhvlediani Children's Gallery, Lia Gorgadze welcomed the people present. The speaker mentioned that “Surb Gevorg Cathedral: Frescoes”, “Sayat-Nova: Poetry” and “Shushanik, the Queen of Kartli” book-albums were published by Initiatives for Development of Armenia (IDeA) Foundation within the project for reconstruction of Saint Gevorg Church in Tbilisi, the Cathedral Church of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia.

The works of students of National Aesthetic Center of Armenia and Elene Akhvlediani Children's Gallery of Georgia as well as young artists of Artsakh featured in “Shushanik, the Queen of Kartli” book-album were highlighted. 150 competitors from different Georgian public and art schools depicted through paintings the hagiography of Saint Shushanik, Vardan Mamikonyan’s daughter, but works of only 55 students were featured in the album, while 30 of them belong to the students of Elene Akhvlediani Children's Gallery of Georgia.

Gallery teachers Marine Taboridze, Nino Okropiridze, expressed their gratitude to Eleonora Malkhasyan, Cultural Programs Manager and Project Manager of the books’ publication at IDeA Foundation, thanks to her efforts Georgian children got involved in the contest and the story was published as a symbol of shared cultural values of the Armenian and Georgian peoples.

Art critic Gogi Khoshtaria, the Editor of the “Vrastan” Newsletter (“Georgia”) Van Baiburtyan, Press Secretary of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, Susanna Khachaturyan, the Director of the Educational Department of the Diocese, Eugenia Markosyan in their remarks, emphasized the eternal ideas – of Christianity, beauty, mutual respect and friendship, and stressed that the education of the new generation should be based on these ideas since early childhood. The speakers stressed the importance to built cooperation between National Aesthetic Center of Armenia and Elene Akhvlediani Children's Gallery of Georgia.

Words of appreciation were addressed to the teachers of different schools, Keso Katsitadze, Ketevan Machavariani, Ketevan Putkaradze, Marina Shalamberidze, Ketevan Topiashvili et al, for the provided support to make the contest possible.

The copies of “Shushanik, the Queen of Kartli” trilingual book-album were distributed among the children, who created the paintings.
